cache

How big is the ipod cache? i am wondering because on the next gen ipod they could possible use a very large cache 512mb-1gb? to load playlists and songs, so that the ipod doesnt spin up the harddrive every time a new song is loaded...wouldnt this save battery life and get rid of the spin up time when rapidly scanning through files? maybe they could even use as little as 64-128mb cache on next gen?

32 MB right now.

With 512 MB or even only 128 iPod would be much more expensive. Solid state memory isn't cheap you know.

solid state (flash i assume) is extremely cheap right now. A secure digital card is like $30 for 128mb!, i know 512 and 1gb are espensive, but by the time the next ipod comes out i assume that the price of at least the 512 will drop below $100 dollars for consumers, but apple buys that stuff in bulk, or mass produces it, so they have the ability to drop the price (even thought they never will hee...hee...hee)

It's possible Apple could increase the cache size in the next gen iPod isn't it? That might be one of the new features.
