Problems with Sony EX-71s
I was so exitced when I bought a new pair of MDR-EX71SL Sony earphones from my local Sony store. They looked really cool and I'd heard great things about them from people here at the 'Lounge. So imagine my surprise when I actually tried them out. Yes, the sound is good and they are quite comfortable, but the ease of use is decidedy lacking. First of all to use them properly, you have to connect the earphones to a provided extension cord! How stupid is that? Why not just make the earphones long enough in the first place? And on top of that, they're designed so that part of the cord hangs across your neck, looking really geeky. I think I might have to return these. Any thoughts anyone?

The extension part of the cord is there so you can remove it to use a wired inline remote with your device. Its perfect for using with my 2G iPod remote.
The part of the cord that hangs down goes behind your head. But I still don't like it. You can make it even by using tape or something else inconspicuous to attach the thicker cord to the connecting cord at the correct spot to it pulls evenly on both ears.

Canawinpod,
Yep as MikeM states the cable is meant to go round the back of your neck. I find the shorter cable option is great for when I carry the iPod in a shirt pocket - it is the ideal length.
And as for having the cable loop round the back of your neck - it means when you take the 'phones out they remain around you neck and are easily accessible to put back in again. Give them a try for a bit longer - you just need to adjust to wearing that style!

Personally I love earphones that have a slightly longer right cable to go round the back of your neck.
The main reasons (before I read the reviews) for buying the Sony EX-71's was because they do go round the back of your neck as I hate the normal "Y" cable that comes with most earphones and to do just as MadPict said.
The other reason was they were white so matched the ipod and the fact that you have the optional extension to use was brilliant as it meant I wouldn't have a meter of cable when I plug them into the ipod remote.
The bonus is that they deliver a good sound too ! :D

Well thanks everyone. I think I might have to exchange the ones I bought though, since they're black.
