iTunes Format

I posted this elsewhere... but perhaps I should have done it here:

Newbie question follows...

The music I download from iTunes can be played back on which PORTABLE player - iPod only, or are there other players that I can use to listen to downloaded music from iTunes?

If the answer is iPod only, then the obvious follow-on question is.... Is there software available that I can use to convert the iTune to a format that will be recognized by other portable players?

Thnkas in advance,

Astro:)

Only the iPod can play iTunes music store files.

Since Apple controls the DRM on those files, there is no software that can convert them. [as far as I know]

You can burn them to a cd using iTunes and then you can use those files on the cd to create mp3s or any other unprotected file.

Thanks. It worked! Now I can enjoy iTunes without feeling committed to the iPod.

Hi ,

I was wondering how do you take your acc file that you burnt to a cd and covert it to MP3 ? I don't see how that works . thanks

you convert the AAC to AIFF (regular audio CD format) when you burn to CD. Then rip it back to MP3. Obviously (hopefully so) when reripping to MP3 format, there's no point in using a bit rate higher than the original AAC file.
