Congratulate me!
I was planning on getting an Ipod around Christmas (if I could hold out), but Dell's blowout today was too much!! I ordered the 40 Gb for $419.
Now I just have to go through the agony of waiting for the Airborne guy to show up. I'm sure everyone knows the drill--check the tracking number website at least 6 times/day...playing "where's my pod now?"...
Anyone else bite the bullet on the deal from Dell today?

Neil, I just hate to see someone start a thread called ?Congratulate Me? and then see that thread simply ignored.
I for one will congratulate you. Especially given that you are not an iPod owner currently and ordered one anyway from Dell in the midst of their HUGE push to sell their own Dell DJ. Dell puts out a decent player but you have provided an example that, at least for now, there are people out there that will opt for the American icon. I for one congratulate you!!
Good luck and enjoy

Yes Neil, "waiting is the hardest part"!
And that is a great deal for a 40gb, i can't blame you for choosing to purchase now instead of later!
Congrats and may you have many hours of listening pleasure. :)

Nice deal. You'll be happy with it.

Thanks everyone!! I was thinking after posting that maybe I should've stuck this in the "My Ipod and Me" forum.
I know everyone can relate to the feeling you get when it's in-between the time you've ordered a new toy and the time it actually arrives on your doorstep! Hmmm--think I just came up with a new axiom: The intensity of the impatience you feel is directly proportional to how "cool" the new gadget is!! Call it Neil's law..ha-ha...and the Ipod is so darn cool it's what makes you want to jump up and shout about it! (Yeah, I'm a gearhead, can't help it!)
And just to add to my impatience, my hard drive on my PC died yesterday after I'd ripped most of my CDs using ITunes...now I'm stuck twiddling my thumbs until a replacement gets here...
And the little Dell monster was never a consideration, Spidey. Not for me, anyway!
Nice to have joined the Lounge, fellas! Thanks for the well-wishes!
Neil
Edit: Thanks, Mod, for moving it!

American Icon?
Was it not the Jonathan Ives that designed it? He's British... :D
And before the whole flame war starts, us Brits may have designed it, but had we MADE it, it would cost ?1000, break more often than work & take 12v car batteries... ;P

I apologize. I certainly meant no offense. If a Brit designed it then credit should be given where credit is due. I was actually referring to Rolling Stones designation of the iPod as an icon. Given the large number of Europeans and other's who frequents the boards from outside the US I should have just shortened it to "Icon". Again my apologies!
But very funny post, 12v car batteries............:p

Ive's contributions to most of Apple's product intro videos (he led the G5 and iMac design teams as well) make amusing viewing, if you want to get a better idea about how the stuff was conceived.

Should have been American/British iCon?
