"Cool! Is that an iPod?"

How many of you are sick of hearing that...I brought my new pod to school for the first time on Monday, and at least 10 people have asked me that since. I finally just said "No, its a chicken sandwich". I guess the iPod is just a people person...er, pod.

Actually, whenever I have it out at school nobody has ANY IDEA what it is, they're always going "WHAT IN THE HELL IS THAT?!?!?!"...maybe they think it's a bomb or something. Then I show em and they always ask how much it costs:)

I always have my earphones in so no one ever talks to me :-)

Actually I very seldom get asked about my ipod. Though the other day one of my professors asked what it was. and before I could tell him a classmate said: His hearing aid. And the professors response. Why does he always put it on AFTER I'm done talking then! (he knew it was a joke)

Cheers,
Stu

Your probably showing it off if your having everyone ask you that question. I have it hidden away with only the white ear buds visible when i'm out and about with it.

Yeah, I hate having to justify spending 400+$ for my baby. what if it really was your baby and over the rest of your life you had to put out millions. Like what if they wen to 50000$ a semester prep school for 12 years then went to a 200000$ a year college. That would be AAHHHHHHHHHH!!!

yeah. i have two ipods. i got sick of people going on about it, although it was funny at first. "whoa, you have 2 ipods? how important are you?" blah blah. seems people can stick 20+ wheels on their escalades and not be bothered, i go for the music bling bling? it's a nuisance. but it was kinda cool. by old 2nd gen 20 gb may be brought back out for effect. i dunno. my 30 is so sweet.

i was even told employees at my place of work were making fun of me, but give me a break, i had a large cd collection. i want a 200 gb ipod. then i won't wear two.

everyone else, wear your ipod as loudly as you can! it's one heck of a conversation piece. you can pick up chicks with it! (i have...)

# 10 Re: "Cool! Is that an iPod?"
I really don't want people talking to me about my iPod. I not that all materialistic, I just like stuff that works. My iPod works plain and simple, I really don't give a rat's booty whether I paid $400 to $500 bucks for it. That is my business. I worked hard and that is what I spend my money on. Everyone else can just kiss my mother (shut your mouth)!

Yeah, it's pretty pathetic to impress people with an iPod. Craving attention is not something I use for iPod nor picking up girls. It's worse that people who buy flashy cars to get noticed, considering that iPods aren't that expensive in a relative way to other things.

I use my iPod daily, if someone notice the white ear buds and say something. cool. if someone ask me about the ipod when I have it out changing playlist. cool. You won't catch me brandishing the iPod out in the open to get attention though. that is just lame.

yea im pretty discrete with mine but whenever someone does get a glimpse of it, they are always facinated. always impresses them when i tell them i have 1300 songs on it (then i think to myself only 1300 songs :)). there are a ton of them at my school. off the top of my head, i can name atleast 8 people with an ipod who use it regularly... keep in mind my school is only about 500 people

# 14 Re: "Cool! Is that an iPod?"
My school's 2000 and I can think of at least 15 people off the top of my head who own one, and more than that who are determined to get one by Christmas at least.

geistwerks, I'm gonna start calling my iPod "musical bling bling" from now on. Thank you for this awesome phrase.

# 16 Re: "Cool! Is that an iPod?"
I've only had my iPod for a few weeks, and the first time I brought it to school everyone needs to see it. I didn't think it would be that bad...but it is, and it's actually very annoying. In my school of 1000, I don't know anyone else who has an iPod.

It's funny how, every single person who's seen it, has asked me how much it costs. And they always ask for some sort of justification for paying that price.

The first time I brought it to math class, about 10 people crowded around my desk. And of course...they have to talk to me, when I'm listening to music. LOL

I make sure I don't show them any music they'd like...that way they don't have an excuse for wanting to listen to it.:D

hehe same thing over here.. at work mostly, well it ain't cheap but it is a technological masterpiece for the simple user to the audiophile. some of my friends laugh at me when they ask the price and tell them it was almost two weeks of hardworking ;)

# 21 Re: "Cool! Is that an iPod?"
I don't know anyone in my TOWN who has one! Everytime I tell someone how I'm getting one for my birthday, they go "Oh, cool! Um...what the hell is that?"

The guy at the electronics store didn't even know what it was...

So looks like I'll be first in town. lol. The newspaper will probably catch up with me wanting an interview. Hahahahaha

# 23 Re: "Cool! Is that an iPod?"
I took it at school the other day and everyone in my math class jumped on me asking the usual stuff:
wtf is that?
how much does it cost?
where did you get it from? (Its kinda hard to find one here, I got mine from ebay and when I tried to ask apple for one they said it'd take them 1 month to bring it and it would be like 300$ more)
and after I explain them their last line is:
you're crazy :P

# 24 Re: "Cool! Is that an iPod?"
I'm usually VERY secretive about mine.
I don't "wear" it so much as I "hide" it.

Bascially, because I work in a pretty lousy part of town, and I don't want to get jumped for it.
Maybe I'm being paranoid, but, better safe than sorry.

I know what you guys are saying about having to justify the expense. Even when I say stuff like "well...most of my CD collection is on here and it's not even half full" they still don't seem to get it (as they fumble around with one of those dumb CD wallets)

# 25 Re: "Cool! Is that an iPod?"
A few people have questioned me about it. One eager boy even used it as a springboard to start a conversation with me at a bus stop, which led to him asking me to hang out later that evening. Unfortunately for him, I don't go home with strangers ;P

It's a crazy world, I tell ya.

In my university, it's hard to go more than 10 feet without seeing at LEAST one generation of iPod; it's that crazy. However, even though I don't flash mine around because I hate it when random people bother me with silly questions, or when I see other people trying to get attention just for owning something expensive and flashy, every now and then pulling it out to change a playlist is a necessity...

And even though everyone and their brother has an iPod out here... you'd be amazed how many people STILL ask about it, even in those few brief seconds when it's not in my pocket. ...Even moreso because I have the only iPod here (that I've seen) with any sort of colored skin on it.

"HOLY MOTHER, THEY COME IN BLUE?!?!"

"No, it's just a cover."

"OH WOW THAT'S COOL CAN I TOUCH IT?!?"

And this is where I run. ;D

If you are using those white earbuds. you may as well be holding the thing above your head with both hands. I keep mine in my pocked and use different headphones. I don't like people knowing that I'm geeky/trendy enough to spend $400 on a toy.

# 27 Re: "Cool! Is that an iPod?"
Umm the only people that know white ear buds = iPod are those that already have one. I think the ear buds that come with the iPod is adequate.

I understand about showing off a new toy, but don't like some people having this elitist attitude just because they have an iPod. It's not that impressive.

I get the same question all the time. "Why do you need TWO iPods?!?"
Oh I don't know, because I can, or I want to , or as someone else pointed out I worked for my money and if that?s what I want to buy then so be it.
Mostly it?s because when the 3rd Gens came out I was not ready to give up on my classic goodness ;)
Plus the battery life on the 2nd Gen helps out when I know I will be away from a power source for awhile but will be listening to music throughout the day.

My girlfriend is on me all the time to put one of the twins up for adoption on EBay. Well I don't think so................ :D
