Audible Subscription Services

I've been debating on whether to try out the WSJ subcription that Audible offers. I've heard lots of testimonials as to Auudible's books, but not the periodicals. Anyone have experience with these? Some of the things I'm curious about:

-Does it offer the ability to archive the offerings?
-Do you listen to everyday's offering or do you find yourself only listening to it once or twice a week?
-How does the knowledge gleaned compare to the comprehension of reading it instead?

Hopefully those questions made sense. Thanks in advance.

Hey PodPiper.

I subscribe to a couple of weekly programs...Car Talk, and This American Life. I think they're great.

I have subscribed to some of the daily shows, including the WSJ off an on a few times, when I'm in the mood for that type of content.

to anwer your specific questions...
yes, your content is archived and you can go back and download it from your Audible library any time. You can also search the Audible archives for back issues and by them ala carte. Good for programs like a specific interview on Fresh Air, or a specific episode of Booknotes.

For me, the weekly shows work the best. I can download them on the weekend and have them during the week during drive time.

The WSJ narrator does a really nice job. He presents it in a very conversational tone, rather than just a dry reading. So comprehension is good. I had a regular daily subscription to the Audible WSJ when I was in B-School. I found it very useful then, but daily is too much for me now.

If you want to try it, you can buy WSJ ala carte a few times and see how you like it, or you can just get one of the short term subscriptions-like one month.

Hope that helps. Anyone else?

I used to have a daily WSJ subscription before my iPod. Audible Manager would burn it for me on a daily basis automatically. I just had to make sure to put a blank CDR in my burner the night before.

The content was good and I enjoyed the service. The only downfall was listening to stories I cared nothing about. They may have changed this now with different tracks for each headline but I'm not sure. If you are putting it on a iPod, it wouldnt be a problem anyway.

Whether or not its worth 12.95 a month, I dont know.

I'm a current subscriber to the WSJ and it is a step further than the content you get from becoming a WSJ online member.

The actual paper is the best of all of course, since you can quickly navigate the pages and find what you are interested in. But who has time for that right :)

The Audible subscription includes about an hour's worth of news bytes, including some editorials and top stories. I like it because it fills my commute time with useful information. When I get to the office, I can then quickly scan the web version for more details on the stuff I heard.

I also agree that the narrator is quite friendly, yet knows what he's reading and talking about.

Now if I could only get the download to get onto my ipod automatically, that would be great. I'll start another thread after I look further...
