Converting MP3->AA and AA->MP3

Hello all:

I listen to a lot of audio books on the iPod. I have been a audible subscriber for 3 years now and love the service. The best part is the bookmarking that the iPod does automatically.

My question:

I have a huge collection of Books on CD that I have bought through the years. After I convert these audio CD's to MP3, is it possible to convert them to the audible format so that I can take advantage of the bookmarking features? Right now, the only way I know how to save my place is to pause play and let the unit turn itself off.

How are you guys/gals saving your place in non-audible books?

Grant--

Unfortunately, I don't know of a way to convert mp3 files to audible format (although I would love this as I also have a lot of audio books in cd/mp3 format).

I also wish that the ipod had a bookmarking feature, but oh well!

You don't have to wait for your iPod to turn itself off in order to remember your last place though. What I do is hit the pause button once to pause the player, and then hit and hold the pause button until the unit powers down (takes a second or two).

Hope this helps--and if you ever do find a way to convert mp3 files to audible files, keep us posted!

Edit: 5-26-04 See [/URL] Complete Beginner?s Guide for Copying Audio CD?s into a Bookmarking iTunes/iPod file (http://ipodlounge.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=201254#post201254) for an even better solution.

BTW, Greyed out can be solved by either or both:
1. Highlighting all the tracks\
2. Clicking on the first untitled column on the left even though files are in order.

Also reported that clicking on tracks column until arrow up works.

look at this thread to see if it works for you. I am stalled at the first step because I cannot join the cd tracks -- greyed out regardless of what I do to follow the suggestions in the forum.

Hello. I have been wanting to convert my aa files to mp3, but have not found a way to do this. I saw that gshipley mentioned there was a way to do this, and was hoping you or someone could explain how I can go about doing this. Thanks for you help.

I finally figured it out the answer to my own question, which was a bit different than yours. I posted the answer at Bookmarking Non-Audible files -- click here

Perhaps you can figure out how to do it with a portion of the step by step. My solution applies to having found only an mp3 merging software, and not aac merging software -- which would simplify and speed the process I was trying to figure out. If you are asking how to import mp3 into iTunes and convert it to aac, the answer is in the post link above. Otherwise, don't think my quest will help you.

For all others, the answer to getting a set of audio cd's into one file, with bookmarks, and thence onto your iPod, the answer is at the link above.

Grant:

As you've probably guessed from Para's PM, I've had to delete your post. Hope you'll understand. Please don't post about how to convert Audible to mp3 on this board.

That's against the Audible EULA and we can't allow it here.

Thanks...
