new iPod offer - free book on Audible?
When I got my iPod there was some incentive to sign up for audible - a free book and publication?
Or am i dreaming? Or too late?
There used to be a link from the iPod site to audible but nothing anymore and now I have iTunes I can't install Audible client really.
I'm thinking of getting war and peace from them >=) as it's 62 hours

I signed up, downloaded my books, and cancelled two weeks later. No hassle whatsoever.

so if i do something like gshipley did, will my files stay and work after i cancel? i just wanted a couple of audiobooks, so this sounds perfect.

If you just want a couple books, you can purchase them individually, any time you want, without a subscription.
Or you can do a monthly subscription plan, with no commitment. You can cancel anytime.
Either way, the books are always yours, and you can listen to them anytime you want, and you can even re-download them from Audible from any time if you need to. (even if you are not a subscriber).

Once you buy a book from audible, via subscription or outright, you will always own that book. You can log in to your account and download it as much as you like. You can also burn that book with either itunes or Audible Manager.

dunno about my 2nd choice though - was thinking of the new Douglas Coupland but the sample was irritating to us as we aren't american.

If you're looking for something a little lighter to balance out War and Peace, I highly recommend "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy". Its hysterical and one of the best narrated books I've ever heard. Its narrated by the author, Douglas Adams.

how do i go about getting these 2 free books? do i just add them to my shopping cart, checkout, but then they don't charge me? or is there a different way?

BritishBoy, you sign into audible once you have an account with them. Their system keeps track of your renewal date if you have a monthly subscription. Their shopping cart system just changed recently and now sports a checkbox next to the books you've placed into the cart. If you check the box to use your subscription, you'll see something like this: (my current's month "purchase" and as you can see I didn't pay anything but used my subscription)
