PC windows song upload problem

Hello everyone,
I am new to this site and am encouraged by all the helpful people out there, who I am hoping can help me as well...

I have an original 20gig ipod for windows and have only used about 11 gigs of the memory since I got it. I have not installed any new software or updates for it and have only been using the software that originally came with it. I have had no problems until recently. I justy reformated my HD on my PC and again installed the windows software.

Now when I try to add songs to my ipod, it has a few problems.

1) If there are 10 tracks in an album, it will upload 10 tracks, but only uploading track one and two over and over again for 5x, thus "forgetting" about the other 8

2) It will upload all 10 tracks, but do it twice, thus uploading 20tracks in total.

3) I have opened some albums to realize that some of the songs have been deleted!

My biggest problem is the uploding of the tracks as it seems to either not do it in it fully, or do it multiple times. thank god I had a backup for most of my files to upload the deleted ones...

Sorry for the long post, but thought it would be helpful to explain the details.

do you think formatting the HD again has something to do with it? Initially I had a JApanese Windows 2000 OS on it and changed it to an English version of Windows 2000. I thiunk that may have played a role. I also use an IO-DATA CB1394L IEEE firewall card for my laptop.

Also I would like suggestions on what new software I should download and use for my ipod.
