New 20GB 3G iPod installation really sucks!

Hi everybody,

Got my iPod and .....problems like always!

This works:
- I have the device in my "Computer" Folder.
- EphPod is connetcting and transferring files to it.

This don't work;
- The updater 2.0.1 don't work. Just hangs and nothing happens.
- When I disconnect the iPod this is shown on the display: "V OK to disconnect" and then I take the iPod from the dock and the diplay has the same text and no buttons are working!! How can Iget it to play??

Please someone...!

I haven't install any software other than the updater 2.0.1 and EphPod

hahah....

seems like the iPod is a great portable harddrive, but not a good mp3-player.

So what to do. I have uninstall everything and then installed EphPod and updater again. The updater just hangs and don't work. Why...oh why?

Right click the iPod drive in My Computer and select "Format". Do a "Quick Format". Then run the updater. It should work.

Hi,

Thanks for all the tips, but I already read the several topics in the forum and saw the tip of yours before, so I tried that and no news. The situation is still as it was. I have no idea what to do next.

I can copy music and everything, but not play it - really strange.

More tips or suggestions?

The answer from the updater is: "Can' mount the iPod".
I have tried to format the iPod several times, both Quick and Normal format....it doesn't not work....but the EphPod works...this is strange.

Try a little trick for me. Open up your iPod in My Computer. There is a hidden folder in there called "ipod_control". If you don't see it, make sure viewing of hidden files is enabled under Tools>Folder Options (it's on the View tab).

Delete that folder.

Then, fire up ephpod, it should prompt you that the iPod doesn't have the correct folder structure and it wants to build it. Let it. Then try uploading a song or two.

Let me now how that goes. Ephpod is capable of building the iPod's directory structure w/the Restore doesn't seem to be capable of doing right now...so I'd be interested in how that works.

PM me if it works OK?

Thanks,

Adam

Hi ashawley,

I tried your suggestions and the didn't work BUT

Until now I installed everything under Program in my WinXP bootpartition, named J After having tried everything and it didn't work I wanted to pack the iPOD and Monday skip it back to Apple, but I thought: "a last try".

I decided to install everything on the CD and try it with all the software and musicmatch. Earlier during that installation the installationprogram asked me to put the iPOD in the dock so it could recognized it - and it COULDN'T.

Before I installed it I thought of a really old problem or more of a bug in all kind of old software - that programs have to be install under C: . I thought that it is worth trying. I renamed one of my partition with only data to C: and made a new folder called Program .
I installed everything (not musicmatch) on the CD and during the installation the program manager recognized the iPOD without any problem and the updater did that too!!!!

So what I think is that all the programs have to be installed under C: and Program and not under "PRogram Files" or in a partition called J, K, D, or whatever.

That's my suggestions - and I don't know if there are wright but I think so!!

Thanks anyway for all the help!

P.S. Sorry for the bad English!

Thanks for the tip, do you you think that it was just that it needed to be installed under C:\ and not that it needed to be installed into a Programs folder? I mean, almost all folks that install this software have it installed under the "Program Files" folder (I know I do).

Interesting nonetheless.....I do seem to remember that trick somewhere else... I'll suggest it when all else fails to others.

hard to say. Installed it under "c:/Program/" and it worked. I have a Swedish Windows XP so I don't have a "Program files" folder and from my previous experience I don't like that. A lot of programs have problems with "Program files", since it is two words and sometimes it's just get wrong in the windows registrer.

Ah, must be a Swedish thing. U.S. versions install it under "Program Files" by default--at least everyone I've seen. ;)
