Songs ending prematurely: is it time to send for repairs?

My searches failed to locate posts about this, so apologies in advance if I'm asking about a previously hashed-out issue...

Here's my story:
I have the 10GB 3rd generation
Using Ephpod with WinXP

I've successfully transferred about 250 songs to the iPOD, most of which work fine. However, there is a handfull of tunes that will play for a time, then prematurely end in the middle of the song; the iPOD then starts the next song.

If I replay the song, it will do the same thing at the same point in the song. If, however, fast foward past the point in the tune where it normally stops, the remainder of the tune will play fine. (Hope that makes sense).

I've tried playing the original mp3 on my PC and it plays fine without any problems.

This sounds like a problem with the hard drive. I wanted to see if anyone knows a solution to this issue before I return it to Apple for repairs. Thanks!

Have you tried re-ripping the problem mp3's?

I'm fairly new to iPods and haven't had this problem, but when I used to have a Rio500 I would have problems similar to what you are describing with a few of my files. The mp3 would play fine on my desktop, but would act strangely when transferred to the Rio. I'd re-rip the problem mp3 and re-transfer and the problem would go away.

I think that there was some artifact in the mp3 that the desktop would ignore, but would trip up my portable.
