You have to load the ipod software on your computer, and uninstall musicmatch later. I use ephpod, it's primo.

First off, ephpod doesn't auto-sync, so it won't delete unless you click the sync button. And even then it will only do it if you have the option referred to above checked.

So, connect the iPod, open up ephpod, click on Configure Ephpod, then click on Synchronization. That tab has an option on it to "delete files on iPod not in sync". Make sure that isn't checked.

when i plugged in MY ipod, the computer (PC) went through the whole "new hardware found".....i dont want it to run the updater and all that stuff thinking it might erase it...

I guess it boils down to this.....HOW do i introduce another ipod to this computer without erasing the contents of it??

Should i delete Ipod Manager, so that it won't run updater and restore my ipod?

Brian, but that was when you were going through the setup process on the CD right?

New hardware found won't do anything but add the iPod as an external drive.

iPod Manager isn't needed at all. Don't install anything from the Apple CD. Install ephpod, connect the iPod, and upload tunes.

no, when i put MY ipod (in my girlfriend's dock) it said in the task bar "new hardware found" and wanted to do a whole buch of stuff that i wasnt sure i wanted to be a part of....So, it was not when i put the apple disk in, just when i docked.....

OK, if it's on a PC, there is nothing, I repeat, nothing that will happen as long as you don't have MMJB installed OR the iPod Manager.

It'll install the iPod as an external drive, that's all the stuff you saw.

She might have had MMJB or the iPod Manager installed. Neither way, they won't reformat your drive, even MMJB doesn't autosync.

she does have MMJB + IPOD manager, I will remove both...however...Do i need to enable disk mode on my ipod, and if so, without ipod manager, how do i do that...

PS- thanks for the help, it's really appreciated...

Glad it worked.

A little info about the "enabling disk mode". Apple did something silly here. As you noticed, by default, when an iPod is connected to a Windows machine, windows will see it just as another hard drive and assign it a drive letter.

Apple didn't want that (for whatever reasons) and built iPod Manager to hide the drive that windows normally would assign. So, you see, "Enable Disk Mode" is just doing something that windows would normally do on it's own.

So, w/o iPod Manager installed, you will be default have a drive letter assigned to your iPod.

Kind of silly....they never should have gone that route if you ask me.
