way to tell if I have USB 2.0?

Oldish computer. Is there any way I can work out what version my USB ports are?
I know firewire is better but I am getting a laptop in 1-2 months, and so don't want to buy a firewire port/plugin/whateveryoucallit for just the short period of time.

Easy,

If it's over 18 months old, it's got usb1.0/1.1, for sure.

If not, go to Control Panel>System>Hardware (tab)>Device Manager>Universal Serial Bus Controllers, if you don't see the word 'Enhanced' anywhere, you haven't got Usb 2.0.

Hope that helps

Sure did help, thanks a lot.

Looks like I don't have 2.0 then =/

Is it possible to live on 1.0/1.1 for a couple months? I have ~2200 songs and would only need to transfer them once.

As an aside, I know the ipod doesnt come with a USB cable, but I have one from my Sony NetMD, I wonder if its the same connection. What does the Ipod connection look like? COuldnt see it in any of the pictures.

I just got my 20gig Gen3 Ipod the other day and have no problems with the USB 2 connector that I bought @ the Apple Store, my computer is USB 1.1 also. It takes about one minute to upload an album worth of MP3's, so it will take some time but you could use this connection method.

Here is a picture from the Apple site:

I doubt that the cable that you have will work.

Good Luck! :D
