Unique Config....I need Help
I have a unique situation and in need help setting it up...At work i have a G4 and all my music is on there...i-tunes works great. No problems.
I'm in school and i use a Toshiba laptop with Windows 2000 on it...i'd like to use my I-Pod as a source of data transfer from the laptop to my home Dell tower (Win XP)...I don't want to use MMJB on windows... SO how do i install my i-pod as a external drive ONLY on the laptop and the dell tower?? Thanks for the help!

Well, this is pretty easy, but you'll need some software.
The deal is you want to keep the iPod formatted as a HFS+ drive for you Mac, it works best that way w/iTunes.
But Windows machines can't read that. So, you should grab yourself a copy of Mediafour's (http://www.mediafour.com) MacDrive. You can also try MacOpener. Not sure who makes that, but I've never had good luck with it.
Installing MacDrive will let you read the HFS+ drive on your PCs.
No other software to install since you only want to use the iPod as a Hard Drive. Windows will recognize it fine and assign a drive letter for the iPod automatically.

Macdrive works well....what if i format my i-pod as a Windows drive, it should work w/o Macdrive in Windows units......and it should still work w/ i-tunes, right??

doubtful as the mac probably won't recognize the device as an ipod if it's FAT32 formatted...
you might lose features like playcount, volume control etc...
Oh do you have a gen 1/2 or gen 3?

Since Macs can read FAT32 it will have no problems accessing the drive. BUT...folks have had mixed experiences using a WiPod with iTunes. Complaints about crashes and slow transfer rates etc.
My advice, go w/MacDrive or MacOpener on the windows machines and leave the iPod as a MiPod.
