Im new at all this...lots of Qs...
Hey everyone,
Okay, I'm going to ask for an iPod (the smallest one...the 10GB is it?) for my birthday, anyways, I am not exactly...how do I say this...computer literate. What does my computer need to run all the stuff? It's a windows. Does iTunes come for Windows? If so, does it come with the iPod?
Coz in Australia, they're like $600 for the smallest kind. So I really want to figure it all out before asking for it for my birthday.
Thanks guys,
Love, Bec.
PS- Please tell me EVERYTHING i need to know before getting one.

Oh, boy. This is gonna be long Bec.
First off, what version of windows do you have? It's best if you have WindowsXP. Doesn't make any difference which version of XP but that's the best for use w/the iPod. Windows 2000 works OK as well. Windows ME or Windows98, not so good. But it can be done, just requires a little more work.
You'll need either "USB2.0" or a Firewire card. These are the places that you'll plug the iPod into. You need just one option. Your computer may already have USB2.0 if it's a newer PC. If not, you'll want to get a Firewire Card. They are cheap ($20US) and very easy to install. We can help you out if needed.
That's about it. Oh, you need music to put on it. ;)
iTunes for windows is not out right now, it's expected maybe in Mid-October. But, the iPod does come with software (MusicMatch Jukebox-MMJB) that will let you convert your CDs to mp3 files (the files the iPod plays). There are much better programs out there for use with the iPod other than MMJB. When you get it we can help you out to point you in the direction of what might be right for you.
G'Day! :D
Oh, and welcome to the 'lounge.

Thanks mate. My birthday isn't until Christmas Eve, but I think I'm going to ask for it early. Maybe I should wait until like November so that iTunes for windows is hopefully out...
Anyway, thanks heaps. You actually said it all in English. Everywhere else I have been looking on the net, it's been in like "computer language".
OMG! I'm so excited!! I can't wait until my birthday! But I seriously CANNOT afford AUD$600 out of the blue.
Thanks again.

What I'd recommend for you at present is to go ahead and start converting your songs to mp3 if you have a large library; if not you can wait until you get the ipod and convert to AAC with Itunes. And if you're starting from scratch, waiting for Itunes for windows is an excellent idea--you won't have any problems figuring it out, it's a very simple, intuitive program. Good Luck!!
