Fomatting in DOS - error message

Hi,

On having my last attempt at getting this thing going before buying a new firewire card.

Tried to format in DOS (as was getting nowhere in XP, just failure message), at command line "format f: /fs:fat32"

DOS has given me the message (after looking like it was going to do something for while!)

"Invalid Media or Track 0 Bad - Disk unusable".

As far as I can tell the percentage never went above 0 complete.

Is this more evidence of a VIA chipset firewire card being needed (I've been getting the Firmare failure etc message on trying to restore as well) ... or evidence my brand new ipoid is shafted?!!

Any advice/thoughts appreciated.

Thanks again.

Most likely it's the card....you don't have to have a VIA brand. What are you using?

I've had great luck w/the Adaptec 4300 and Orangelink Cards.

Card is a D-Link (with what I have since found out has a Texas Instrument Chipset. ) Anyway, taken your advcie and gone with the Adaptec one. Hopefully it'll be here tommorrow so we'll see how I get on.
