New Beetle and iPod
I was watching the "Buy a New Beetle. Get a new iPod" commercial
at Apple's website, and it made wonder how is the iPod connected
to the car's stereo system. I did not notice any transmitting
devices such as the iTrip, Belkin's TuneCast or anything like it.
Although I saw a white cable which I assume comes from the iPod
going in to a (what it looks like) cassette player. CASSETTE PLAYER!
Is this right?
At least they should provided a more descent connection to the iPod.
Let say, a stereo connection, using iCable, from the back of a cd
player perhaps.
By the way, how is the sound quality using a cassette adaptor coming
from the ipod?

The sound quality is better than an FM transmitter especially if you use one of the higher quality cassette adaptors such as the one by Sony. This is what I use in my Audi A4 and for a car, it sounds great.

I'm glad you told me that. I had bought the iTune transmitter, but I was not too happy with it. I would not even consider the tape adaptor for I heard that it was even worst than the iTune.
My car has a cassette player and a AUX port.
I used the AUX port, but it gives me a bad signal... songs dont sound so good. I will the adapter a try.
Thanks.

I'm very surprised that your aux port wouldn't sound good. That should be your best source for good, direct sound. If I were you I would verify that the cable you were using was quality. Also, make sure your volume on your iPod is down somewhere around 80%, if you run it higher than that you can get a distorted signal especially through some of the lower quality cables. They just don't have the bandwidth to carry the stronger signals. I obviously don't know the quality of your system in your car but I'd really tinker with using the aux as your first option. If for some reason it still doesn't work, then try the cassette which will sound better than the FM transmitter for sure.

I can confirm only that my AUX connection works perfectly well even if I set 100% volume. I think you can also try to get signal from docking station (line out) to check if you have problems with volume.
Regarding to the original post, I think it's a good movement and if WV partners with Apple and provides a complete iPod and car stereo integration then it could be a good answer to 5 channels DVD-a/DTS system used in Acura's cars in term of not sound quality but in accessibility of huge number of songs
