Copy Ipod to Ipod
Is there any program to make an Ipod have the same playlists and songs from another.
I had bought a 10gb Ipod and i filled it so i bought a 20gb and now i want to transfer the 10gb to the 20gb without using Xplay to remake all those playlists and mixes.
If you can help please do!!!

i don?t think such a thing officially exists, since it would go against apple?s "don?t steal music" sticker. ;) :D
imagine transferring your music from ipod to ipod without a computer. the bosses of the record labels are already getting a heart attack reading this. ;) :D

I have done this. Kinda.
My friend wanted her iPod converted from Mac to Windows, but didn't want to lose her songs and stuff.
So, I plugged it in (after installing Macopener) and copied her entire iPod_control folder to my hard drive. It was like 8GB.
Then, I ran the updater on her iPod, which formatted it and wiped all her data out. When it was done, I deleted the new iPod_control folder and copied the old one onto her iPod.
When she unplugged, her iPod still had all of her music, playlists, and database intact. All was well.
So, I guess such a thing is possible. Just delete the iPod_control folder on the TARGET iPod and replace it with the one from the SOURCE iPod. Do it directly from iPod to iPod or copy it to your hard drive first.
Your mileage may vary, but Lee was very happy with the outcome.

you still need a computer to do this. i thought he was referring to swapping music just using a cable from ipod to ipod, but after rereading his original post, i bow my head once again in deference to you, kurt. :o :)

I got yer back, mrm, :)
Cable-based iPod-to-iPod cloning would RULE, wouldn't it? 180? from "Don't steal music" though, I agree.

you could connect them up, but there would be no way of executing an 'upload files'/'download files' command without a pc. You would need some sort of interface between the two like a pc in order to do this.

how about an auto-sync? when they are connected all songs are compared. the missing songs are copied to either ipod. only prob is if the library becomes too large.

its not the ipod that does the auto syncing when u connect it up to a pc/mac. Its the pc/mac that compares the datafile.
Unless you were to add a line of code to the firmware, it would be inpossible for 2 ipods to sync without being connected to a pc

i?m aware it?s not possible at the moment, but wouldn?t it be cool? oops, this thread is slinding slowly but steadily into the wishlist section. :D

Two words on this one: OPEN SOURCE!
if ive mentioned it once, ive mentioned it a million times, make the firmware open source. Anyone have any reason why this would be a bad thing? Seriously, other than the wishlist boards being almost empty...

Two words. Intellectual Property. There is no way in the world that Apple is going to give up their code, and if they did, and someone did do this then I bet some musician, or perhaps the RIAA would go after Apple for permitting it.
It's getting to a point the the only Intellectual Property a company has anymore is the code, and they aren't going to open source it, or at least open source it to a point where they give up the control of it.

This is easy.
Hook up both new and old ipod to a computer with 2 firewire ports. Browse to the old ipod, and look in ipodcontrol folder for music. Copy that folder to the ipodcontrol folder on the new ipod. Took 20 minutes for 15 megs.
Remember, only do this for you personal copies of music. Dont steal.

Well all I did when I send out my ipod for repair is copy the
"iPod_control" folder to my computer, then when I get a new one, just copy it back. Works great. Just as I had my ipod the week before.
PS: In a folder, click on "tools", "folder options", click on the "View" tab then finally change the radio button from "Hide..." to "Show hidden files and folders".
