Have you tried to dock with the power cable in. You should then try to reset it using the hold button methid and the menu play holding down at same time (see p.43 of manual). You should then get the apple logo and then try and use the manager software to mount it. If this does not work, try updating with the 2.0.1 (remember to save your songs as this will delete them from the ipod)
I had a slightly similar problem on my first day (did not last as long as you) and this worked for me.
Mine is finw now.

Please tell us what kind of computer, is it a desktop or laptop, what OS you are using and what version of iPod software that you installed.
Also, how did you install the software, right from the iPod CD supplied from Apple?

Also, to get ephpod to work try the following:
Uninstall the MMJB iPod Plugin
Uninstall the iPod Manager
Reboot
Connect the iPod, fire up ephpod.

i have a 10 gig. 3G ipod. i installed the software with the cd that came with my ipod. it came with version 2.0. and i guess my only option now is to try adams suggestion with uninstalling and getting ephpod to work. and i have a custom built computer runing windows xp if that matters.

Uninstall the Apple software and the MMJB iPod Plugin, then try ephpod and report back.
If you get an error message when launching ephpod that says "cannot create iPod_control", open up the iPod in My Computer and delete the hidden iPod_control folder. This contains all your music, but since you haven't been able to get anything on it that won't matter. ;)
