Newbie PC/ IPod questions
Sorry, I know this has probably been asked/answered a million times, but before I put down the big money for the 30GB Ipod, I just want to be sure...
I'm running Windows 2000 on a 750mhz PC desktop. I've got USB 1.1... can I connect an Ipod to it? Is it absolutely necessary to have USB 2.0 or a firewire card? Or will USB 1.1 work? I don't really care about transfer speeds...
THANKS!

Yes, your PC is fine for the iPod. I know you think that transfer speeds don't matter, but how much is your time worth? Can you spare an extra $20-30? Then get a firewire card. All you do is plug it in, and bingo, you're done.
The other thing to consider is that loading up a 30 gig drive on USB 1.1 will probably take all night. You don't want your iPod loading for that long. It'll get too hot. Not recommended.
Seriously, for as cheap as they are, just get a firewire card

I have a similar system and yes, it will work under USB 1.1. I've used it for small transfers.
But in the long run, it's better to get the Firewire card....

best way is to purchase a card with both firewire/USB2.0...
and use the firewire...and USB2.0 can be used with a myriad of other things..such as external harddrive..

Also keep in mind that the 30GB iPod will not come with any USB connectivity at all right out of the box, so plan on spending more money.
