iPod keeps resetting
I have a new 15Gb 3rd generation iPod which is giving me some severe problems.
It seems to work fine whilst plugged into the dock connector and into my firewire port, however when I try to play songs when it is disconnected it resets immediately and gives me the apple logo for a few seconds before coming back online and does this each time I try to play a song.
I'm running windows ME and the version of firmware that iPod is using is v. 2.0.1 which as far as I can tell is the latest version.
Does anyone know whats happening/how to fix it or is this particular iPod a lost cause? If so do apple have a facility where I can email them my problem?

I have the same exact problem. I am running XP and have run the ipod updater several times. In addition to the problem stated above my ipod will also freeze up from time to time when I am going through the menus. I then have to reset the ipod manually.
Very frustrating.
Any advice?

When you say 'freeze up' this is not neccessarily an error. I have noticed at times you have to be patient as sometimes it performs tasks which take some time so it lags a bit.
For example it seems to 'freeze' everytime I first go into Notes. I have since discovered that this is because when you go into Notes it checks through all the text files and parses them (laymens term: looks through all the text files) so it takes time. And other times I can imagine it is searching for things on the hard drive and sometimes can delay.
As for resetting when playing a song sorry I'm not sure about that someone else will have to answer that.

Actually, when mine freezes up it stops responding until I manually reset the unit. The worse problem though is when I try to play a song and the ipod resets itself automatically.
This stinks.

Well, I spent an hour on the phone with apple support this morning. We ended up trying to format the hard drive but we couldn't even do that. I am sending it back to Dell for a replacement. What a POS. All the apple support guy could say was that maybe the hard drive was faulty. He also tried to blame it on the fact I am using ephod. whatever, hopefully me next one will work better.

best of luck with the new one. for all others, if it happens again try restoring the firmware with the updater.
