About IPOD not docking when firewire in AC ADAPTER

OK I put a pst on here a couple days ago talking about how my ipod wouldnt connect. I fixed it with the 2.0.1 update, but now it works fine if the ipod is on the dock with just the usb 2.0 plugged in but if the usb 2.0 is plugged in and the firewire into the adapter the ipod wont mount and wont be detected like theres to much power.. please help.......:( :o

You're plugging the firewire portion into the AC adaptor and then plugging the AC adaptor into a power outlet right?I ask because I've heard folks plugging in the firewire portion into a firewire port on their PC. That's a no-no.

Hmm I asked awhile ago about plugging the firewire charger straight into the firewire port because I read about it online... I was wondering if it would fry anything. So you mean you have the cable that has both the USB cable and firewire cable which merge into an iPod dock connecter.I think what your saying is you have the iPod plugged in, and the firewire cable plugged in and the USB cable plugged in because you want to charge off the firewire but transfer off the UDB is this correct? (I didn't 100% understand so if I got anything wrong then let me know).
Well if this is the case then it won't work, because the signals the computer is sending from the firewire cable and the USB cable are being merged, which obviously will mean garbage input into the iPod which is probably why the computer won't recognise it.
I'd suggest only use one cable at a time. Apologies if my assumptions were wrong, if I was wrong, then give me more details...

I think you had it right. I have the firewire in ac adapter plugged into wall, usb plugged into computer and other end into dock that ipod sits on. When I put on dock your right it wont dock because its like its getting too much power or something and kinda shorts. But when the firewire in ac adapter are not plugged in it docks fine. Hey Guys fixed the ipod... Got a 30 dollar belkin 3 port pci firewire card and stuck it in and windows installed it itself and the ipod works great. NEVER USE USB 2.0 lol.. Go for firewire its cheap easy to install and saves alot of time. I love it.,.....SmokinT at 2007-11-15 17:11:09 >

I've just installed my USB2 cable and it works fine. This is at work as I didn't want to have to install a PCI card in a work machine. :)FireWire end is in the power adapter, USB end is in the PC's USB1.1 port and the Dock end is pluged straight into the iPod.
It's charging and I can browse the drive with W2K, Sveta and Linux.
