Delete duplicate songs

Is there an easy way to delete duplicate songs within MMJ or (extremely most preferably to the former I must say) EphPod?

The thing is, I got a G3 15GB, and when I used MMJ to transfer the files, it would stop at random. I downloaded Xplay and was able to transfer my entire collection, but in several takes because of the delayed write errors.
Now my problem is that first of all I have some songs which cuts (i.e. the iPod skips to the next song) after a while into the song, and many duplicate entries of songs.
I suspect this is related to the delayed write errors, and now when I tried Ashampoo to fix the mp3 files, I noticed several instances of for example:
02_-_heavy.mp3
02_-_heavy~1.mp3
02_-_heavy~2.mp3
within the same directory on the iPod.

When I loaded them in Winamp, they all show up as the same song and artist with the same play length and they have the exact same file length on the iPod, so it's beyond any doubt duplicates.
Thing is scanning manually through over 3000 songs is tedious work to put it mildly, so will any software do this for me?
The "Check iPod for duplicates" EphPod function in the tools menu just scans (what seems to be the DB) and say all songs exist, and deleting/rebuilding the DB doesn't seem to have any effect.

What I would do is start a new. Restore your iPod (or just delete all the songs on it) and re-sync your tunes.

I should note that the delayed write failure is an indication of a firewire card that doesn't get along well w/the iPod. What kind of card do you have? A good card would solve that problem and many other headaches you're likely to have down the road, such as skips in the songs and such.

So this can't be done in software? I transferred most of my CD collection to the iPod but deleted them afterwards to free up disk space on my harddrive. I hate the idea of ripping all those CD's again!

It's a built-in card on a Asus P4C800-Deluxe motherboard. I agree, sounds like a Firewire issue, but Gaz in another thread has tried 4 different Firewire cards and 3 different PC's with the same problem, so even though I agree with you, I'm not convinced that's the problem.

Eeek, you're trusting the iPod to all of your data? I would not recommend that. As a portable media device it is really prone to problems unlike something locked up in your PC. Might want to consider a second HDD. They are unbelievable cheap these days.

Anyway, what I would do, is copy what you can off to your PC from the iPod. If you don't have the space for everything, maybe burning them to a disk temporarily.

Then restore the iPod and copy again.

Oh, and regarding firewire card problems, in probably 95+% of the cases I see, replacing the card solves the problem. The remainder are either PCI latency issues due to the Motherboard or are due to faulty iPods.

Just my 2 cents.

It's not as dramatic as it sounds. It's mostly my wife's CD collection and since I never listen to it and since there's "backup" in the form of the CD's themselves, I saw no point in having them lying around on the harddrive. Still needs to be ripped again.

Sigh Yeah. Seems like it's the only thing to do.

I'm still not convinced it's a card issue since Gaz tried 4 different cards on his PC('s)...
