Ipod crashes Windows 2000

Hi,

I have Windows 2000 server running and had just got a new iPod 30gig. On my first day, I had no luck with making the device work. Windows would not recognize it but thanks to the many postings on this forum, I made the choice of changing my Firewire card to a Belkin.

Now Windows detects my iPod but it crashes and reboots everytime I connect the iPod or leave it connected. I am now at day 3 and I have tried, installing, uninstalling the iPod software, removing the MusicMatch, using Ephpod, trying iPod disk mode, resetting it and yelling at it. There isn't any software installed yet my PC is still resetting. I thought it may be a disk management problem but I can't even change anything before my PC reboots again.

Please HELP!

Regards,

Mick

Hmmmm, I thought the Belkin card was known to be "problematic".

Are you getting a Blue Screen of Death when the PC resets or does it just reboot?
If it just reboots, I wonder if the Firewire card is overtaxing your power supply.

Try moving the firewire card to a different PCI slot. It needs to be in a bus-powered slot. On some PCs not all slots are powered and windows will crash upon connection to protect the PC.

First,

Thank you for your replies.

I had had it with Win2000 so I decided to move to XP. All seems fine for now with Ephpod.

So, upgrading the OS solved the crashing problem? Interesting.

Another reason to bail on 2K. It seems a fickle OS to use w/the iPod.

not in my experience but I'll be loading up XP on another partition soon so we'll see...

2000 works great.

Try switching to standard PC during install. XP(2k) like to share IRQ values.

XP is like a children's game that uses more memory than it should. OpenGL games are horrible, and has a horrible mouse glitch.
