Best way to backup MP3 Files
This may seem like a stupid question, but what is the quickest and easiest way to backup my music collection once I have ripped everything? So far I've got about 300+ CD's at 192, which seems to translate to about 12G so far. I'll probably have about 500 CD's when it's all said and done. It seems like there has to be a better way than burning them all onto CD's...
How can I archive them so that if my computer goes down for the count I can easily restore them to a new system? What about transferring them if I buy a new PC?
Any suggestions would be most appreciated....
Thanks!

Well, here are your options:
1) Back 'em up on CD. This is the cheapest way. And safe, if you take care of your CDs.
2) Back 'em up on DVD. If you have a burner, this is pretty cheap too. If you don't, you'd have to buy one.
3) Buy a hard drive to back things up. Hard drives are CHEAP now - you can gets gigs and gigs for very little. Check www.pricewatch.com to see just how cheap they are now.
And there you go.

I have a couple of these and I find them invaluable for ad hoc backups. Completely painless, and easily movable.

This is what I have:
2 160GB Drives with a hardware mirror card.
About to get a 3rd drive
Plus's: Never need to perform a backup
Fast
Low PC usage
Cons:
Will not protect you from a virus
Will not protect you from stupid mistakes
You can also use DAT tapes.

bdrules
Let me know how it goes backing up to dvd-r. Everytime I tried I received errors because the files names were longer than 112 characters. MMJB was supposed to convert files names but it still did not work.

hey cgar, i've had the same problem when i was backing up to cd-rs and all you have to do is ignore it. i use nero and it gives me an error that it doesn't fit into the cd specifications or something, and all i do is click the x button (because there is no cancel button) and it burns them. windows reads them fine.
