Newbie needs advice.

I don't own an IPod yet (althought I hope to remedy that soon enough) and I am a little confused about how to transfer music to it. I own an Archos Jukebox which allows you to use Windows Explorer to drag and drop files (music and otherwise) to it. Is this the case here or do you have to use software to do this with IPod? If you do need to use software to sync with IPod, is it a pain in the butt to use or is it pretty decent? I really need to use my IPod as an external HDD, is it easy to do with IPod? Are there any words of advice you'd give me before I take the plunge? Thanks alot.

Hi,

To transfer music you will have to use a program. Ephpod or Media center 9 are good and easy to use.
Using the iPod as an external HDD is easy, it shows as a removable drive in windows explorer and you can drag files onto it. But remember that music files added this won't play, you need to transfer them with a program, but don't worry they are easy to use.

Hey

The Default program that comes with the Ipod is MusicMatch...many PC users call it a torture and a complete pain in the ###...maybe i'm just an oddball..but so far i have had no complications with this program (although i do still have ephpod)...the programs that pierugg mentioned are both available through the internet...it is personally not a pain in the ### for me to transfer mp3 files...however there is more "synching" required than wut i read with your experience with the archos...but itz all worth it for this thing totally :) :)

The only thing you need off the Musicmatch disk is the iPod updater. Just so you know, some of us were using iPods long before MMJB released the version for the iPod, so there is nothing that you need on that disk, since you can get the iPod updater from Apple. There is a message on how to use MMJB with ephPOD on the same computer http://www.ipodlounge.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=524 but it would be better for you to remove it entirely.

You could also look at xPlay $29.95 which uses the explorer interface that you are used to using.

You can also check out the Software Compendium ( http://ipodlounge.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2286) for a write up of all your options...
