Audible on Gen 3 iPods
I'm curious to know what is the best software setup for use with 3rd generation Windows iPods for transferring Audible files in addition to music. (Gen3 iPods only please).
If you use your iPod with Audible files, do you use the official combo of MMJB for music and AudibleManager for your Audible files? If so, is it working well?
If not, what app do you use for transferring Audible and music files, respectively. Ephpod? XPlay? MC9?
Pls offer your experience as well as other applicable tips, tricks, bugs, or compatibility issues that you've come across using your iPod with Audible.
Thanks,
Parannoya

I use Xplay and at present it doesn't support transfer of Audible content (AAC). I believe they are working on this, but I dont know how long it will be until they resolve the issue.

I use a combination of Audible.com's AudibleManager and MC9. I use AudibleManager to download the audible files from Audible.com. I also delete the files after I've listed to them from inside AudibleManager.
I then import them into MC9, where I have it set up to automatically include .aa files into a playlist. That playlist is then synced with my iPod whenever I sync.
It's a little awkard, but if I use AudibleManager to sync directly, then MC9 can no longer sync with the iPod.

Hey guys, thanks for the feeback.
Currently, I am using AM 4.0 and MMJB 7.5.5005. This combo seems to be working well for me. (I believe its the only supported solution from Apple /Audible).
Xplay- I also have Xplay 1.1.3 which I use sometimes for exploring my iPod and, although it will not transfer Audible files, it does not cause any other problems with them. So it seems that you can use Xplay 1.1.3 with AM 4.0 with no problems if you prefer Xplay over MMJB. GuyVer, I also read from somewhere else that XPlay was planning Audible support in the future.
Ephpod 2.7- I tried Ephpod on my 3G 2.01 iPod. I was able to transfer music and Audible files, but found one BIG problem. When I used Ephpod, I found that my iPod would no longer retain the bookmarks in my Audible files. The only solution I could find was to reformat the iPod and not use Ephpod again. This was a bummer because I do like an all-in-one solution.
Klingler-Does everything, including the bookmarks, work fine with MC9? I tried the free trial a long time ago so it won't let me try it again on my computer. (Despite the fact that it was over seven months, and I could never even use it because it was so buggy then).
Thanks.

What is the Klinger you are refering to? So you say the Audible bookmarks work fine until you used Ephpod then they quit working so you re-formatted the ipod and didn't use ephpod and now the bookmarks work again?? Hmmmm

Kopykat,
I was directing that question back to Klingler, author of the previous post. But I can see how my wording was confusing.
You intrepet me correctly. My iPod worked fine with bookmarks until I used Ephpod (v2.70a). Then after I re-formatted the iPod and stuck with MMJB 7.5.5005, AudibleManager 4.0, (and even XPlay 1.1.3), everything has worked fine since.

Oooops!
Thanks for the tip, I am uninstalling ephpod as we speak... Will try xplay now thatnks!

Kopykat - Oh how I wish that there was a program called Klingler to manage the ipod... I have to imagine that it would do everything I wanted!!
I believe that MC9 causes the bookmarks to be lost whenever it is synced with the iPod. So far that hasn't been an issue for me, as I mostly listen to NPR's Morning Edition and get through all of what I plan to listen to in one listening. However, I can certainly understand the concern with some of the longer audible books.

That would be a great program! Yep you are correct the bookmarks work fine when ephpod is not installed or used. I added a couple books with AM v4.0 and set the bookmark then used dBpowerAmp Sveta Potable Audio, added a bunck of mp3's and the books would not play after that. Then I deleted the books added them back with AM v4.0 and the books and bookmarks work fine. I will try XPlay and then MMJB and try to get the best of both worlds. Bookmarks and a good mp3 loading software... Anyone else have any ideas?

How do you set bookmarks in the Audible book on the iPod?
# 10 Re: Audible on Gen 3 iPods
The iPod should automatically "bookmark" the point where you stopped listening and then resume in that spot later when you go back to the Audible file. It will maintain the spot in each of the Audible files on the player, if you listen to more than one at a time. (For example, one book and one radio show).
There is no way to manually set bookmarks on the iPod, if thats what your asking.

Yes that is correct but when using the ephpod, mc9, sveta, these bookmarks are removed for some reason when i do a sync...
