Missing Ipod Driver for Windows XP
To anyone who can help. I have successfully installed my new 10Gb iPod onto my Compaq N600 Laptop. Although this took ages to do it is now recognised by the device manager.
However, the driver for the iPod does not seem to have loaded and as a result the iPod has a yellow exclamation remark next to it's icon in device manager.
Can anyone shed some light on this drama? Can you tell me where I can find the relevent driver for Windows XP?
Thanks in advance, Carl.

There is no driver specific to the iPod. Windos just uses the generic external disk drive driver.
Try uninstalling the firewire card and the iPod in Device manager, then rebooting.
Also, what type of card do you have? That could be the issue.

Hi Adam,
Thank you for your reply. I never realised until I found your website that so many people had problems with their ipods.
I don't have the exact spec of the firewire card to hand, but it is an NEC card - I can reply to you again with the exact details this evening.
Thanks once again for your help so far, Carl.

Carl -
Had similiar problems that took 6+ hours to solve. I'm using a Dell Inspiron connecting to a 30GB I-Pod with a SIIG Firewire card. There is no "driver" for the I-Pod. Suggestions:
- Disable any virus scanners and firewalls, some users seem to have had problems with their software interfering (this apparently wasn't my problem though...)
- Update your BIOS (always a good idea anyways)
- DON'T BOOT UP WITH THE I-POD CONNECTED. This causes my WinXP to go nuts.
- My problem was finally solved by going to the Dell Website and updating any driver I thought might be remotely related. Having WinXP search for drivers was not good enough! Had to "handfeed" windows. The driver for the PCMCIA adapter was what finally gave the I-Pod wings.
Good Luck!
