Not sure about audiblemanager.
Musicmatch--bad, very bad. Ephpod good, very good.
It really depends on what you need. If you already have your mp3's ripped, ephpod is a great application to get them to your ipod--much better and faster than mmjb. You can check out ephpod here at the forum. And ephpod is free.
If you need an all in one application (ie rips/encodes, burns, organizes files, tags, etc) then I'd recommend Media Center 9--costs forty dollars, but well worth it. You can check out MC9 in the thread here at the forum too.

first of all, thanks. ok now i downloaded ephpod and cdex and id3-tagit3. i'm still feeling extremely overwhelmed though, could someone please simplify the whole process of ripping a cd and getting it to my ipod and all that stuff in between? Once i have ripped a cd, are those mp3s put on my ipod just like regular mp3s? Please explain in terms that are understandable to the common caveman and according to my software. thanks a whole, whole, whole bunchessss.

First rip/encode your CD with CDex. Those mp3's will be on your computer's HD. Ephpod will download the MP3's on your computer's HD to your ipod. You will still have the MP3's on your computer's HD, and now on the ipod as well.
Do you rip/encode first, then go to the ephpod part of the forum here at the lounge if you aren't sure how to get your mp3's over to your ipod. It's very easy, don't sweat it, you'll get there (and laugh about how easy it was later).

Any moron should be able to get EAC to work with this tutorial. http://www.chrismyden.com/nuke/modules.php?op=modload&name=Elite_DAE&file=painless. I know that, because it worked for me, and I'm about the biggest moron around.
It will take a little longer to figure out then CDex, but the wait will be worth it.

I prefer EAC/LAME (I almost put that link up there for you myself), but CDex is easier to use. If you're willing to spend the time, and work through a little frustration (I'm not trying to scare you away, but if you're starting from scratch, just be forewarned that EAC/LAME isn't quite as easy to use as CDex, but once you get the hang of it, it's a breeze, and gives better quality rip/encodes IMHO), go with EAC/LAME. But there are some tricks you may need to help you with your folder arrangement (you'll see what I mean if you try it). We can help you get EAC/LAME configured for how you want it to work; the chrismyden link is an excellent place to start....

Audible manager is for managing your audible books. If you go to www.audible.com you can find out more there. It's a subscription service for audible books. If you like listening to books, it's a great service (I've been a member for YEARS and love it). If not, you don't need it and can uninstall the program.

CDex isnt difficult to use at all. I found it quite simple when i first discovered it a 6 or so months ago. But as a convert ( being addicted to EAC ), i would suggest you use EAC and LAME codec 3.90.2.
EAC is extremely easy to use. Despite what people say. Upon install the program can auto configure the lame plugin for you, using the r3mix standard being --alt-preset standard, which has exceptional quality and good file sizes.
EAC has a bunch of options that can be easily discovered. My advice to you:
1. go to drive options, and use secure mode and only select accurate stream mode.
2. make sure EAC is writing id3 v 2.x tags
3. always remember to use alt + g to find the correct name of an album ( if its available )
With these small steps, you'll have good sounding mp3s everytime.
