is it ok to defrag an ipod?

we defrag our HD to improve performance, was wondering if the same can be done for a pod since it is essentially a HD casing. Thanks in advance.

defragmenting the ipod doesn?t do anything. ashawley recommends restoring every couple of months. i do neither (thinking of restoring for the heck of it, though).

Windows XP carried out a scandisk on my iPOD once, when it was booting into XP. Nothing happened although scandisk did create a file0001.chk file, which is ually data kept in a bad area of the disk. I haven't defragged though :D

If you simply add songs to your iPod, then there's no need to defrag, as your iPod should not be fragmented at all.

However, if you remove songs before you add songs, then there might be a slight chance of fragmentation... however I would not defrag your iPod, simply wipe the ipod clean and load all your songs again (i.e. restoring).

Want kind of peformance gain are you expecting? 30 Min. buffer as opposed to 20 min.? I've had my iPOD since december, havent restored, defragged or anything like that. Works like a dream, comes back to play mode when i d/c from computer in under 10 secs. No problems, nothing.

Stop trying to use tools at your desposal for the heck of it.
