Problem connecting to XP
I recently acquired a Mac formated generation 1 iPod (firmware ver. 1.3) and am attempting to convert it to Windows format using the Updater (1.2.6) from Apple on my WinXP Dell computer. I cannot, however, get Windows to recognize the iPod. I have tried several Firewire cards, including Sonnet Technolgies FW400, Maxtor, and most recently an Adaptec 4300. None of these cards were able to communicate with the iPod, even though they all show up as properly installed IEEE1394 devices and two, Maxtor and Adapted, are "Windows Certified". I have tried connecting the iPod both in "normal" as well as "forced firewire" modes with no positive result.
I have tested the Firewire cable that came with the iPod on another firewire device (athough this test was performed on another pc) so I know that it is not the problem and the iPod appears to be charging while connected to my firewire port.
I apologize if this topic has been addressed before, but after trying all of the ideas posted in the tips and tricks and in this forum, I was hoping for a few more ideas. Any ideas would be really appreciated! The alternative would be to go back to me Rio 600 and 64Mb storage:(
