Adaptec firewire cards

Ive been having alot of problems getting connected to ipod, ive tried everything there is to try and have resorted to my last option which is buying a different firewire card. I decided upon the adaptec 4300 after ashawly recommended it , my question is. Does anyone use the adaptec 4300 firewire card with windows xp because when ive been looking at the product online there is no mention that it is compatible with this OS. Thanx alot

I know our fearless Mod, Kurt uses an Adaptec4300 on XP. Loves it from what I'm told.

I've been having problems with my ipod skipping the first song I cue up and going right to the 2nd song and when I called Apple Care the first thing they asked me is what Firewire card I'm using. I'm using an Adaptec4300 and he said there is actually 3 of them and only one of them works well. Apparently the other 2 aren't Windows certified. I no longer have the box so I'm not sure if mine is or not. Anyone have an idea on how I can check? Seems kind of silly that there would be 3 different cards with the same model # and only 1 of them is Windows certified. I'm not convinced this is what is causing the problem either.

I use the texas instruments firewire card and it works like a charm. Costs about $56 too.

I also use the adaptec 4300 with XP, and have had no problems recently. When I first started using my ipod, I had some trouble, but I don't think it was the firewire card. It seemed to be related to a format issue. I have had no trouble since I got my ipod up and running.

BTW, I have a 15gb ipod and a 2.4 ghz dell 8250

did you format the comp or the ipod... and if so the ipod, how did you format it?

for those using the TI/Adaptec card, what transfer speed are you seeing? I'm only seeing 0.71MBPS. Seems slow.

I have the adaptec card and I usually get over 4mbps once she gets rolling a little. Sometimes it gets as high as 5.5 MBPS

Or are you using a Windows-formatted iPod?
