crazy track order, help

Anyone else have this problem? Lately I've noticed that some albums on my WinPod 20GB have their tracks out of order. When I pull up XP or EphPod, the track numbers appear to be correct on the files. But when I open the album on the iPod they remain out of order (in the same way, the same tracks that should be listed somewhere else are first). At first I thought that maybe it was trying to read the two-digit track numbers first, i.e. listing track 10, 11, 12, then 1,2,3...etc. But that isn't the case either. I can't find any pattern to the screwy track order, and it's not on all the albums. I like to listen to albums in order and this is driving me crazy! I don't want to have to make playlists for these albums especially since so far I have no idea how many albums are affected, so far I've found about 5.

BTW I'm running 1.2.6 which I updated a few months ago. I did have to reset my iPod about a month ago when my computer froze while XP was open and I had to ctrl-alt-delete without being able to eject my iPod first. It seemed to be running normally after I reset it but that's the only thing I can think of that could be related to this problem. I hope this info isn't somewhere else on the site, I checked FAQs, T&Ts and searched forums first but no luck!

I used to be a user on the old forums as well so I'm not totally new here...
thanks!

What are your using to tag your files? Most likely it's due to a problem in the track# tags. If you're using ephpod to upload your songs, make sure you delete all id3v1 tags from your songs and only use id3v2. Then wipe the iPod clean and reupload everything.

A good tag editor (www.id3-tagit.de, it's free) should tell you how things look. It's possible the v1 tags are out of whack w/the v2 tags. Getting rid of the v1 tags usually fixes this problem.
