Is it supposed to just say "Do not disconnect?"

Is it supposed to say "do not disconnect" while connected to my computer? That seems a little counter-intuitive if so ... you'd expect it to show a menu or something to indicate everything is okay, not have something that looks like a constant error message.

Simple answer...yes it is.

It means, that it hasn't been unmounted from the computer. Disconnecting it could result in corrupting the HDD. Make sure you unmount it forst (safely remove hardware icon or the iPod icon if you have the Apple software installed).

I suppose it's the natural consequences of having it mounted as an external drive, but I was really expecting something more like a Palm, where you just plug it into the cradle and you can still *use* it.

Thanks!

Its lazy, its cheap, its old technology - its Apple.

Unreliable and the sound quality is from the 1980's, my Sony Stowaway sounded better.

Try a Zen, its bigger, but its better.

If you want to do anything with it when it's in the cradle, just unmount it, it'll still charge and then you can use it.

It's to prevent folks from pulling it out of the cradle while data is being written to it, thus corrupting the data on the disk. Basically it's there because the world has to cater to the lowest common denominator of intelligence.

Hey zero, nice trolling (we don't allow that here btw), how about cooling it a bit. Say something a little more constructive. This is a board about the iPod afterall. If you hate them fine, you're more than entitled to your opinion, but it's not constructive to just incite flame wars like you're doing in your post.

There are zen boards your know...

how do you figure that when the zen got worse reviews based on it's size, ease of use and looks? ipod is simply the best. Not everyone can be happy.
