ipod windows help
just bought a new 30gb ipod tried it using the firewire ports that can with my Abit NF7-S it wouldn't work. So i tried it on mates laptop and it worked without a problem so went and brought SIIG 3 port firewire card to see if that would work. I've now tried it and still nothing
any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks in Advance

I seem to recall seeing problems w/that card. First off, was that the same model card that your friend had on his laptop? If not, try and get one of the following and return the SIIG.
Adaptec 4300 (always works)
Orangelink Cards from orange micro
Any VIA-based card usually works.
If this is on a laptop, try firewire disk mode first. Do a reset (menu plus pause/play until the apple logo comes up). At the apple logo press the FF and Rew keys to get it into firewire disk mode.
This is sometimes needed on unpowered firewire cards (which is usually the case on laptops).

Can you give us some more details? What happens when you connect the iPod? Does anything show up on the iPod? Does it say "Do Not Disconnect"?
What OS are you both running? We need that information.

OK, both of you guys have interesting problems. The first thing I recommend is to try moving your firewire cards to different slots. Usually the second slot will do it. Try different combinations. Sometimes that has an effect.
Since you're both on XP we good there. What I'd also like you to try is to uninstall all the iPod software. Sometimes that Apple stuff makes things go strange. I want to see if natively it will detect it (w/o the Apple stuff interfering).
Also, for kicks, try putting the iPod into forced firewire mode. I very much doubt this will do anything, but w/it connected to the dock, press the menu and pause/play buttons until the Apple logo comes up. At the logo, press the FF and Rew buttons until it goes into "Disk Mode". It will most likely say "OK to Disconnect". But let it sit there for a bit.
I've never seen this happen on XP w/an Adaptec so I'm thinking it might be the Apple software.
Also, uninstall the MMJB iPod plugin if you installed it.\
Oh, and one last thing to check. Open device manager and look check to see if you have any yellow exclamation marks anywhere. Post back if you do and what the warning it. It would show up under disk drives or under 1394 host controller.

i've tried all that the hardware in device manager has no problem. trying all the other stuff has no affect whatsoever
# 10 Re: ipod windows help
yep... same thing for me... tried all that dozens of times before.
the guy i bought it from continues to say its a PC problem :\
im gonna see if i can take it to my local apple store and have them plug it in and see if it detects if not... im going to have to demand my money back from the guy :\

Let us know what happens. Make the guy prove that it works. I've seen this happen a few times (defective iPods). The fact that you are both having this problem would surprise me, but it's not out of the realm of possibilities.

that is exactly what i told him on aim... im like e"ill send it to you, you test it on your computer, the same one that you put songs on with it before, and if it works send me it back ill work with it more, if not, keep it and send me my money back..."
don't you think that is justifiable..
