Help required...tearing my hair out.
For the life of me, I can't get my iPod (30 gig with dock) to fire up.
I managed to get it working, for a short while, then tried to update it to the latest version.
It's now not responding, stuck in a cycle of the Apple logo, and then a picture of the firewire cable with an arrow, before resetting back to the Apple logo again, and again, and again.
As I write, the unit is connected to the mains, yet I can't seem to get a response from it. I've tried resetting the iPod, but I can't get it past this screen.
Does anyone know how to solve this?
How long should the iPod take to fire up after being restored?
I hope someone can help. This is getting frustrating.

I just got a 30GB ipod as well, and it died after Ephod had a fatal crash exiting to windows :-(
I had to install the Ipod updater app and do a restore as well as a reset did nothing. It took about a minute to restore back to factory fresh condition.
Everything seems to be working again...
I did uninstall the ipod manager and updater after, as it seemed to conflict with Ephod causing the firewire connection to keep dropping...
Hope this helps

As things stand, the iPod is halfway through restoring - I received the "please plug in the mains adaptor to allow iPod to reflash" notice, or whatever it is. So, I've done that, and it wont' go beyond the "connect wire" screen.
This means that it wouldn't be able to be detected in Windows, under the iPod manager...currently, there is nothing to detect (or, I think, anyway... )
I don't have ephpod installed, by the way.

Darn....I don't know what to tell you then. It seems that for some people the updater isn't doing its job.
Usually that logo means it needs power to complete the restore (because your firewire card isn't providing power).
That normally does the trick.
Can you even get the updater to recognize it anymore? Try doing a full restore with it (if you've been trying to update it)
