Firewire/USB2 Multi-cable

If I use the Firewire/USB2 Multi-cable am I correct in thinking that I can play tracks, recharge and upload music to my ipod without unplugging anything?

If so, how does that work? Do I have to un-mount the ipod each time Windows boots because on my old ipod I can not play tunes while the ipod is mounted.

i use this cable. it works like this. you connect the firewire end of the cable to the power adapter, and the usb end to your computer. connect the third "proprietary" end to your ipod or to the dock. this way, you can charge as well as upload songs to your ipod at the same time. it works great.

you can boot your computer with this setup, with the ipod docked, but the boot process seems to take a bit longer. probably 30secs more or so on my 1.4ghz p4, win xp machine.

Thanks Akarnk.

You say "you can charge as well as upload songs to your ipod at the same time", can you also play songs as well without unplugging?
