Windows98SE Questions

I'm about to get a new gen3 iPod 10GB and have many concerns about how it will work with my computer. I have Windows98SE and I'm wondering if I download EphPod, will the program work well with the iPod even if I have Windows98SE? Also, I read the stuff about updating for Windows98, but does that apply for SE users? I've heard that the Second Edition works well with the iPod, but I don't know if that's true until I read a straight answer from someone.

EDIT: Do you still have to buy a Windows formatted iPod or do they work with both Mac and Windows now?

# 1 Re: Windows98SE Questions
All iPods now actually come as MiPods. As part of the setup they get converted to WiPods.

You'll need a few things...

First you'll need the windows 98SE Firewire Patch (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;242975). Install that before you install your firewire card (unless you're going the USB route).

Next, read this thread (http://ipodlounge.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2970) on how to get the Updater program extracted from the 2.0.1 Firmware update. You'll use that program to both get the iPod ready for Windows and it'll put the latest firmware on it.

Then use MC9, Xplay or ephpod to upload tunes to your iPod.
