Problem with my new old iPod
Hello,
I have large problems. I have just bought myself a used old 10 gb mac version. I have Windows XP. I just bought a firewire card. When I plugg in the firewire-cable from the card to the iPod, it shows the firewire signal (Y). There was no software from the manufactor of the card...
I downloaded a software (Winnie Updater) which should be able to make a mac ipod into a win. But when I run it, it states that the iPod is not connected... I can either not see the ipod in "explorer" or "my computer".
I also downloaded Ephpod, MacDrive and MacOpener... What to do ?
Thanks!
Michael

BTW, the iPod is charging from the firewire-card. This proves something :)
# 2 Re: Problem with my new old iPod
What is the make and model of the card - my first card charged the iPod but that was all!
# 3 Re: Problem with my new old iPod
Actually, there is no name or other info on the box...
# 4 Re: Problem with my new old iPod
Now, I know the brand etc but they have no other drivers than the included ones in xp..

1. Now a small icon of a ipod with a red cross over is showing at bottom right... Why? :-)
2. How can I change from "firewire disc mode"? It shows the Y (firewire) everytime i have the firewire cable plugged in (i am charging)

First off, don't bother using the Winnie Updater. It's old and hacked from before Apple released the Windows firmware.
Get the
1.2.6 Updater (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=120119) from Apple, download it and install it.
Then run it w/your iPod connected (it will be in Start>Program Files>iPod>Updater.
It should recognize the iPod, reformat it to a WiPod and put the newest firmware on there.
If it doesn't recognize it, try a Quick Format in Windows if the iPod is visable as a drive. Make sure you don't have MMJB installed as it messes w/the ability for the iPod to show up as an external drive.
If that still fails, try a different card. Supplying power is not an indicator that the card is compatible w/the iPod.

The first issue to handle is that the firewire or ipoden does not show in devicemanager or explorer... the card should have plug n play with win 98 and later...
everytime i plug in the firewire cable, the ipoden is shut down and restarted with a big Y (the firewire symbol) and charging... How can I remove this?
