charging question with docking station on ipod

shalom to all 3rd gen users of iPod users...i've this little query about charging..

on the manual it says that when the iPod is connected to the docking station and plugged into the laptop's firewire port...it will automatically recharge...but is this true also for PC users?

apparently i can't seem to get it to charge just yet.but the manual says the docking station will allow the charging to happen. my toshiba tecra 9100 can recognise the iPod just fine and transfer songs to it using EPHPOD w/o any problems so far.

but apparently charging can't be done! i've tried and checked...i'm using the pci TEXAS INSTRUMENTS 4 pin firewire port in built in the Tecra 9100.

any recommendations on what to do?the iPod's giving me sheer pleasure but i want to at least plug it in each time and let it charge automatically instead of having to use the adaptor...

any help will be appreciated...thanks!

I think you need to have the 6 pin version to get power to the iPod.

Yep, you need a 6pin firewire card to charge...You can't charge from a notebook without going through several complicated contortions--you're best off with the adapted, by the time you get it set up to charge through a laptop, buying a second adapter will be substantially cheaper.
