Mac to PC iPod conversion - Have you done it?
I own a Win 20 GB 2nd Gen. iPod and just LOVE it!! So do my 2 daughters, so I am perusing e-bay looking for good deals on Gen. 2 10GB Pods.
It seems that I can convert a Mac iPod to Winnie, but it sounds as if there are some inherent risks (other than voiding the warranty). I would like to hear from those who have performed such a conversion. Is it as simple as updateing with my Win Updater software? Is this conversion always successful? Can it lead to an attractive paperweight?
Thanks for all replies.

It's completely safe and always works. Here's the deal. Every one of the new iPods is shipped as a MiPod. All of them. The setup process you follow when you get your new iPod, converts it to a WiPod.
So, for apple to say it can't or shouldn't be done is disingenous to say the least.
We were all doing it back in the days when they first released the WiPod firmware (before WiPods where made and we all had MiPods, but wanted to convert them).
It's as simple as connecting the iPod and running the Windows updater you have. Just make sure you don't try and run the 2.0 or 2.01 updater on an old iPod.
Fear not, I've done it may times, back and forth w/o a single problem.
