Please help. Cant Restore iPod
So what do i do?
I also did a mistake of re-formatting the drive on windows, did the affect in any way?

Yeah, i'm having this problem with my iPod. At first this folder with an exclamation point kept appearing. So I went to the Apple website and it said to restore. So i downloaded the iPod 2.o program. It detects the iPod and everything, but when i launch the updater to restore the iPod this error always comes out: "Updater can't install firmware on connected iPod. The iPod's hardware and the updater firmware are not compatible"
So what do i do?

What's happened is you've downloaded the wrong updater.If you have an older iPod (1gen or 2nd gen) you need to get the 1.2.6 Updater program. You probably either downloaded 1.3 (MiPod's only) or you got the new one (2.01) for 3rd gen iPods.
Get the correct 1.2.6 Updater (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=120119), install it, and then run it. Make sure you uninstall the previous one first though. So you don't mistakenly run it again.
