First XP Bluescreen ever cause: IPOD

OK, Ive had xp for a year and today I've had my first ever bluescreen and the ipod is the culprit. As i've been having heaps of problems with my 30 gig i was glad to hear of the software update. ( my firewire card has been recognising it for the past 4 weeks no probs)

So i plugged in the ipod to my computer and ran the installer, which crashed at the very first screen, so I rebooted and notice the dreaded exclimation mark and folder icon on the ipod screen

then my computer blue screened for about a second and just shut down, i kept the ipod connected and then my puter wouldnt boot, took the ipod off its dock and then the computer booted. Entered the ipod into disk mode and re attached.... xp recognised the ipod but the updater didnt.. then the computer hung, got the bluescreen again for about a second and computer rebooted. This has happened about 5 times now and i'm getting frustrated.

Have checked every forum for an answer, even tried to register on the apple.com discussion board but that gave me an error also( i hate apple today).

Is my ipod on the scrap heap, its the brand new 30gig model?

anyone else had a bluescreen? I though i was back to windows 95

Please help.

Thanks
Tony

I am having a similar problem, except i never got my iPod working. It just sends my computer in a continuous loop of rebooting preventing Windows XP from starting, or crashes Windows when I connect it after the PC boots up. Also, I experienced the same problems registering on the Apple site. This is my first Apple product and so far it does not look so good.

Ok, just replaced the ipod that was causeing the xp bluescreen. Apple were really cool about it, tested it on some macs and it crashed the mac also. Replaced it in 2 days.
Apparently what i did wrong was I installed the updater software while the ipod was conected. That is a no no as it conflicts with the ipod.

Hope it help you guys. Its working better that the previous one now.

Cheers
Tony
