Newbie Ipod Owner
Hi all,
I've just ordered the third gen Ipod. Im waiting for it to arrive as John Lewis are currently out of stock.
My PC does not have a Firewire card in thought, so at the moment I have been searching the net looking for a cheap one.
I have come across a Q-Tec Firewire card that has the VIA 6306 Chipset.
Does anyone know if this has any compatabilitiy issues with the Ipod?
Thanks in advance!

Your best bet is to do some research at the old forum and the new ones here on firewire cards. There are quite a bit of issues related to them. Some cards work sometimes and some all the time, and some not at all.
Usually firewire cards with the VIA chipset work, however, my mobo has a on board firewire with the VIA chipset and doesn't work at all, so it just depends.
The two that work pretty much all of the time are:
Adapatec 4300: a little pricey
Belkin Firewire card from BestBuy: lot of positive response from this one.
Welcome to the lounge!
Good Luck:cool:

Ok, I'd strongy recommend the Adaptec...I have an IO flex, works great, but some people have problems with it. I just help a friend get up an running--couldn't get an Adaptec quickly, so he tried the Belkin--wouldn't work. He ordered the Adaptec online, and hasn't had a problem since (this is with a gen 3 ipod).
