A question about firewire cards...
hi, i recently bought a firewire card from my local pc store, seemed fine, didnt think the words 'low profile' on the box meant anything, anyway, got the card home, tried to put it into my pc on my spare pci slot only for it to not fir, the card was too small! the metal part at the end with the screw attatchment was too high up! in other words, there was a gap between my pci slot and the actual connectin parts at the bottom of the card! now my question is, is every firewire card the same size? if so, im screwed as it means i wont be able to fit any firewire card in at all which would b a real pain as ive just ordered a new 15gb ipod and wont be able to use it if i cant fit a pci firewire card into my pc!
so please answer, are all firewire cards the same size?

I dunno, I tried fitting my old vodoo 3 in my new comp once to see if it still works and it didn't fit either, in nor pci or agp..
maybe it's an old cards thing??
(unless the firewire card isnt old?)

Sherman: I work in a PC store and i have encountered these problems before! The PCI card you have purchased is for 'slimline' PC's (they are the really thin ones usually used as workstations) The actual PCI card is the same, the slot plate is just a different size. The card will still work, although you may have to buy a new 'face' plate for it (the metal bit). I don't know how stable it will be if you dont screw it in, but taking the plate off may work, or bending it with a clamp. I have done that for a customer once only in reverse...(big PCI card for slimline PC) and she had no propblems after that! That or ask for a refund (if possible..?)
Hope that helps!
