I think my Ipod is dead?
Well, I have an Audigy. After having various problems, I read on here that the ipod doesn't work well with it. Oh yea btw I have a 10gig 2nd gen that I bought refurbished.
Anyway, I updated the Via 4 in 1 drivers and the audigy drivers, just to see if that would have any effect on the ipod. So I try restoring it using Apple's program and it got to the middle when it sid disk write failure. Ok. The ipod was frozen now so I reset and it and unmounted it. However, after resetting it wouldn't come back on.
I can hear the hard drive spinning up but its still not coming on...
Is my ipod dead?

i had the same problem with mine. sometimes the restore function on the updater would freeze halfway through. quick formatting through windows wouldn't work either. i got the folder icon and that plug wire back in icon a lot. i just kept restarting the ipod with the wall adapter plugged in and it eventually came back on. now i just get the disk write error whenever i try to upload songs, so it looks like i'm getting a new firewire card myself.

I just bought an iPod today and never even got it to turn on. It just whirs away without ever turning on. Resetting it does no good. I think I'm going to return it to the Apple store tomorrow, tell them it's defective, and ask for a new one... that is, unless somebody here knows how to fix the problem.

when i plug the ipod into the wall adapter, i just hold those two buttons and it restarts within 5 seconds. the apple logo shows up and when i finally was able to update my firmware w/the bad firewire card that i plan on replacing today, it'll reset and have that bar across the bottom under the apple logo... when the bar is done, the ipod works. i wish i could help you with your's. did you get your's from ebay or something? when you bought it refurbished was there a return policy? i have had the ipod for over a week now w/o it working and i know your pain.
