USB 2.0 cable
I was just wondering if anyone has received and been using the new usb 2.0 cable that has begun shipping. I'm guessing you dont need a firmware update for it to work or apple would have released one by now.

If you look at it's entry in the store it does still say (well it did yesterday anyhow) that you have to get the update in June.

Hi I just got my usb2.0 connector and it seems to be working fine. THe only problem I've been having was using ephpod to unmount my ipod. When I unmount it, the USB connection is still there and I have to manually go to the system tray and remove the ipod device.
ONe question: I had to restore my ipod because I accidentally formatted it the wrong way. I was wondering if it's normal that the software update button is shaded out so you can't click on it. I've tried restoring my ipod, but at the end of the restore, it stops and says that it can't unmount the ipod. Maybe it's because it's USB? Anyhow, i manually take the ipod out of the dock and the system got restored. I can now put songs, but I still wonder if the restoration process was complete rather than half complete. Any help would be appreciated.

nah, mine can never unmount it after its done flashing it. Don't think much, it will unmount and reset itself. (firewire)
# 4 Re: USB 2.0 cable
so you can do everything that you do with your firewire cable with the usb cable lika formating the ipod to pc version etc
# 5 Re: USB 2.0 cable
Can you provide a direct link for ordering the cable? I can't find it on Apple site.

I ordered mine today after reading this (http://www.ipodding.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=1301&mode=thread&order=0) post at iPodding.com (http://www.ipodding.com)! I thought "iPodlounge" would have it posted in there "iPod News" by now, that the USB cables had been shipping. Time to add iPodding.com (http://www.ipodding.com) to our favorites list!:D
I ordered my USB cable this morning at 10:45AM and it has allready shipped!

Cool! What about this note on the ordering page:
*USB 2.0 requires Internet download available in June.
?
Do we really need it, or the cable just plug and play?

Check out these ( http://www.ipodding.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=1301&mode) posts at iPoding. ( http://www.ipodding.com) I guess the latest update for the Windows iPod (2.0.1) is all you need.

Check here (http://search.info.apple.com/?search=Go&lr=lang_en&q=ipod%20kbdload) for the latest firmware update (1.2.6) for your Windows iPod.
No, USB is only on the 3rd gen iPods, which have 2.0 firmware.

received my usb 2.0 cable and it seems to work very well. everything feels much faster...probably because windows does such a much better job supporting usb than ieee1394a.

does music match recognize the Ipod when you connect it to your computer with the new USB 2.0 cable? I mean are you able to sync your music library in music match with your Ipod?
