XP & Ipod Problems
Hi, Not sure if this has been answered but since installing XP pro Im having a nightmare. Initally all was well then an auto update of MusicMatch Kicked in (now running version 8) I have 1.2.6 installed on the Ipod. When connecting my Pc Was freezing, now it just fails to recognise the pod at all. Ive tried restarting (several times) to no avail.
Im using a NISIS 4 port firewire upgrade card, it seemed ok initally but now Im not too sure, in the system/device manager its listed as a network adapter 1394 Net Adapter...
Ideas etc greatly apprecaited...

If you just want to get your iPod up and running (and avoid MMJB which is a poor excuse for software), try one of the other applications out there (MC9, ephpod, Xplay).
Uninstall all the Apple software, the MMJB iPod Plugin and then MMJB. XP shouldn't have any troubles then.
You can check out the boards here for descriptions of the other programs..they all have free trials or a free (ephpod).

Thanks for the pointer, but I removed everything and still have a basic problem as soon as I plug my pod in it says "ok To disconnect" well thanks but I do fancy putting some tunes on you...
This is after a removal of everything and a reinstall....

windows recognises it though, right? if that?s the case, do a quickformat of the ipod hdd. then have ephpod rebuild the ipod control database. it ought to run then.

I would think that your original problem has to do with the fact that you auto-upgraded MMJB to version 8.0 which is unsupported by the iPod... The latest version with iPod support is version 7.5a.

Thanks for tips, as it currently stands no XP does not recognise it. It used to and auto started the synch software as well as appearing as a storage device. Neither of these happen now. The icon has disappeared from my systray too.

then the only thing left to do is format your computer.
no, seriously though, try putting it into forced firewire disk mode (by resetting and pressing ff and rw at the same time while the pod is resetting). xp ought to recognise it then. run a restore after that.

I'm experiencing the same thing. I waited two weeks for delivery of my new iPod 15 gig unit and have had it a week. Not been able to use it. Apple support has been no help. I have Firewire built-in my Asus P4PE motherboard (VIA chip) and I tried two other Firewire cards, Adaptec 4300 and Belkin F5U502--no success. I took my iPod to a computer repair store and he couldn't get it to be recognized, either. I'm sending my iPod back to Apple for repair. Sad state of affairs. I can't wait for USB2 connectivity. I have the USB cable on order. My first, and probably my last, Apple purchase. I called Apple today for return instructions and was told to call back in two hours-there computer is down! :) So is my iPod!

Thanks for the pointers. I am currently failing to even re-install the 1.2.6 update its states a DLL is missing. The more I think about the more a format of the machine is due.
For when I do is there some kind of ideal sequence?
1. Format reinstall XP
2. Install Firewire
3. Install Ipod software from CD
4. Install Update 1.2.6.
5. Cross fingers......
If I decide to stick with musicmatch I take it I dont update to 8 this time try sticking with 7.1?
Lastly apart from menu + pause = Reset & fw + bw to force a firedisk mode are there any other keypress combos to be aware of?
Thanks again
# 9 Re: XP & Ipod Problems
Thanks to everyone for the help but in the end I formatted my machine and began again...
On the plus side now running MusicMatch 7.1 and all seems ok. Recgonised the Ipod as soon as it connected.
On a slightly different note is it possible to drag tunes from my Ipod to the hard disc. Or do I need the corrosponding file on my machine?
