Wont Mount as drive letter, why?? And sync software suggestions

Ok, I hate MusicMatch so I turned on Firewire Disk Use in it so it would mount it as a drive letter. Anyway, it won't show up as a drive letter but I am able to sync and transfer songs through MusicMatch. Anyone know why I can't get it to mount as a drive letter? Or does anyone have a better piece of software to use to sync my iPod?

Hey Diablo0 - Welcome to iPodlounge! :)

I don't have an answer for you as I use my iPod on a Mac, and I assume since you are talking "drive letters" that you are on a Windows PC.

The "iPod - General" forum is intended for non-platform specific topics. So, I am moving this topic to the "iPod Windows - iPod Problems?" forum so that our iPod Windows gurus will be sure to see it & help you out.

Good luck!

Do you have anything else mounted to your computer that takes up the G: drive?

There's your problem right there. For some reason when you connect your iPod, your computer sets the drive letter as G:. There's no way to change it so you'll have to change the letter of your Nero Image to say J:.

thanks, for some reason it didn't assign it to G: it overwrote my mapped network drive H: but didn't rename it or anything so it looked like my usual h: drive but linked to my ipod.

THanks for the help

Yeah, the iPod won't grab the G: all the time. It will grab the first available drive. Unfortunately, windows ignores network drives when looking for available drives sometimes.

You can change the drive letter your iPod get (I like I:\ ;)) then you won't have to worry about it, these are the instructions for XP (do this w/the iPod connected)

Open Control Panel
Click on Performance and Maintenance
Click on Administrative Tools
Click on Computer Management
Double Click Storage
Double Click Disk Management
Right click the iPod's drive, select Change Drive Letters & Path.
Click Change and change the drive to a different letter.

One thing suggest is to uninstall the MMJB iPod plugin and MMJB if you're going to use a different product.

As far a recommendations, I believe the MC9 is the best one out there by far. Xplay and ephpod work fine though.

This thread saved the day for me. I was in the same exact situation wherein my Ipod worked perfectly with MMJ but XP would never give it a drive letter so I couldn't use Ephpod, etc. When I saw the last few posts I went in and opened up drive letter G. XP then wierdly gave the Ipod the network drive letter I: but didn't rename it exactly like Diablo0's posting. After I figured that out I just reassigned the Ipod to drive letter P and winxp picks it up perfectly everytime. Thanks for the help!
