backing up IP with windows

How can I backup my new IPOD (the one with the DOC connector) on windows XP? I want to make an empty directory on the PC and have it back up the songs and play lists so if the IP ever crashes I can restore everything

I'm not sure why you would want to back everything up? Everything that is on your iPod was originally downloaded from your computer; so in the event your iPod dies you should still have the files on your computer?

However, to answer your question, yes you can back up everything. Just access your iPod as a hard drive and copy *all* the files and folders (even the hidden ones) to an empty directory on your computer.

It might be better actually to instead take an image of the drive in your CD copying program. I find this keeps the data more complete, allows it to be copied to a cd/cds, and makes it much easier to transfer, and also, in case of error, the ISO image is very very nice to deal with.
